A Tasting to Remember - Viognier & Syrah/Shiraz

Before we take a break for the summer, if it ever arrives, we thought we would try something different.

To continue in the spirit created by the joint Four-Society “Olympic” Event in January 2010, the British Columbia Wine Appreciation Society and Les Chevaliers des Vins de France are joining forces for another enjoyable event. For our theme, we have chosen “Viognier and Syrah/Shiraz” (blends will be included) from British Columbia and France. And you’re invited to try them out!

Date: Monday, June 27, 2011
Place: Listel Hotel on Robson
Time: 7:30-9:30 p.m.
Cost: Members $40, Guests $55

Amount (use drop-down menu for guests)

While not a challenge event, this will certainly be a wine tasting to remember. Each Society has selected two Viognier and three Syrah/Shiraz based wines. As before, it is intended that the wines are available in BC and they will be tasted blind – not even the organizers will know which is which.

The wines we have chosen are:

• Chateau Paul Mas Viognier 2010 - $14

• Domaine Francois Villard Condrieu “Terrasses du Palat” 2006 - $60

• Chateau Paul Mas “Clos des Mures” Coteaux du Languegoc 2009 - $23

• Yann Chave Crozes Hermitage 2007 - $39

• Auguste Clape 2004 Cornas Renaissance 2004 - $60 • Marichel Raisin d’Etre Viognier 2009 - $20

• Sandhill Viognier Small Lots Osprey Ridge Vineyard 2009 - $25

• Laughing Stock Syrah 2008 - $35

• Jackson Triggs Shiraz Sunrock Vineyard 2004 - $35

• Marichel Syrah 2008 - $40

We are also very pleased to have Richard Roskell lead our event and speak to the wines. Richard (with his wife Elisabeth) is co-owner and winemaker of Marichel Vineyards & Winery, which is located close to Naramata, B.C. The vineyard was purchased by the Roskells in 2000 and is planted to two varietals only – Viognier and Syrah. Yields are severely limited resulting in wines of intense flavour.

Space is limited to 30 seats for each Society, so sign up now through your Society’s website! One week prior to June 27, if one Society has unfilled seats, these seats will be offered to the other Society’s members at the member price.
