Vancouver Island is the best place in the world to grow Pinot Noir!
Andy Johnston of Averill Creek Winery thinks it is, and he’s coming out to visit us, along with nine of his Vancouver Island estate-grown wines, to tell us why.
Andy’s led an interesting life. He was a physician in Alberta, but decided he wanted to get into the wine business. He worked in vineyards and wineries in Italy, Australia, France and New Zealand over a period of several years before deciding to purchase what would become the Averill Creek property in 2001. Averill Creek had first its crush in 2004. By last summer, Andy was producing Pinot Gris (with oak), Pinot Grigio (without oak), Merlot, Prevost premium red blend, Somenos Rose, Gewürztraminer, Cowichan Black (from blackberries), and, of course, Pinot Noir.
The beautiful Averill Creek labels, which reproduce part of the view from the winery.
Come out and join us for what promises to be a very interesting – and tasty – evening!
